Brothers John Chernin and Dave Chernin will pen the script for 'The Mick,' the network's third comedy in the works this season.
Fox is expanding its comedy pilot offerings — and contributing to the Year of the Family Comedy.
The network has handed out a pilot order to single-camera comedy The Mick, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia duo John Chernin and Dave Chernin, the comedy revolves around a hard-living, foul-mouthed woman who moves to affluent Greenwich, Conn., to raise the spoiled kids of her wealthy sister who has fled the country to avoid a federal indictment. She quickly learns what everyone else already knows: other people's children are awful.
The Chernin brothers will pen the script for the comedy, which landed at Fox after being taken out directly to networks by the duo and 3 Arts. The comedy landed at Fox, which attached sibling studio 20th Century Fox Television to exec produce. In addition to the Chernins, 3 Arts' Nick Frenkel and Oly Obst will exec produce. The Muppets/Wilfred's Randall Einhorn will also exec produce and direct the pilot.
The Mick marks Fox's third comedy in the works this season. The network also developed off-cycle the live-action/animated entry Son of Zorn and picked that up to series. Zorn hails from Last Man on Earth's Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who also have an untitled time travel comedy pilot from Julius "Goldie" Sharpe in the works at the network. All three comedies hail from 20th TV and are single-camera.
With the pickup, Fox becomes the latest network to pick up a family comedy this season in what has clearly become the biggest trend of the season.
