CW Seed will stream all episodes of the 'Mortal Kombat X' competition series with the finale airing on the network in February.
The CW is getting into the eSports business.
The network and its digital platform, CW Seed, are working with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Machinima to air the third season of Mortal Kombat X: Machinima's Chasing the Cup, a five-part docuseries that follows professional eSports players as they compete to be named the best players in the world.
The first three episodes go online at CW Seed today with upcoming episodes posting each week. The finale will air on the CW as a one-hour primetime special on Monday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
Chasing the Cup comes from gaming and fandom-focused digital network Machinima. This season goes behind-the-scenes in the lives of professional Mortal Kombat X players as they compete at the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League Finals for a piece of the $100,000 prize pool. Players featured in the series include Carl White, Canadian brothers Timothy and Matthew Commandeur, Brant McCaskill and returning champion Dominique Maclean.
"As video games and eSports become more mainstream, broadcast networks are looking for content to attract this highly valuable audience," said Machinima chief content officer Daniel Tibbets. "Since it began more than a decade ago, Machinima has been creating some of the most popular and watched shows in these genres. Machinima’s Chasing The Cup is an incredible series that shows what it takes to become the world’s greatest gamers and we look forward to working with the CW on this series for a long time."
