Signed and sealed by Steven. A local Milwaukee news station received a handwritten letter from convicted murderer Steven Avery, the subject of Netflix's controversial docuseries Making a Murderer on Thursday, January 21, and the three-page note includes his response to his former fiancée Jodi Stachowski.
In the bizarre letter sent to ABC affiliate WISN, the 53-year-old convict addresses Stachowski's recent claims to Nancy Grace that Avery forced her to lie to Netflix. Stachowski also told the HLN program that she believes he is guilty of the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. According to WISN, Avery alleges that Stachowski was paid off by the state of Wisconsin to do the interview.

NetflixIn an interview that aired on Wednesday, January 13, Stachowski told Grace's producers that Avery threatened her and said she was to lie to Netflix producers — or else. "He told me how to act," Stachowski claimed. "He's not innocent . . . I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go the hospital, and get away from him, and ask them to get the police to help me."
Avery's handwritten letter on Thursday was accompanied by a typed statement. It read: "The real killer is still out there. Who is he stalking now? I am really innocent of this case and that is the truth!!! The truth will set me free!!!!!!!"

The station says Avery wanted to do an interview with WISN — "See if you can come up here to talk, OK?" he wrote — but the Department of Corrections denied the request.
As previously reported, Avery's desire to watch Making a Murderer from behind bars was also denied by the state-run facility.
Since the series' release, numerous key players, including his then-lawyers Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, as well as the former Manitowoc County sheriff Ken Petersen and both his ex-fiancées Stachowski and Sandy Greenman, have all spoken out about the case. Avery has also filed an appeal with his recently revamped legal team.
