The latest comic book drama opens with a strong showing for the net.
The CW debuted one of its few new series of the 2015-16 season on Thursday night. Legends of Tomorrow, its latest spin (and spin-off) of the its DC Comics properties opened to a solid 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.1 million viewers.
Those numbers put it somewhere in between predecessors Arrow and The Flash, in terms of performance. The network's first Vampire Diaries-free Thursday in memory also saw The 100 lift with a strong lead-in. It opened to a 0.7 rating among adults 18-49 and just shy of 2 million viewers. All in all, it gave the network its best showing on the night in more than three years.
On Fox, American Idol was steady and in the lead with an average 2.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 9.3 million viewers.
Competition was a grab bag, and CBS' Life in Pieces managed to pull the night's strongest scripted showing in spite of a repeat Big Bang Theory lead-in. The comedy averaged a 2.0 adults rating before a similarly steady Mom (1.7 adults). Angel from Hell was down to a 1.4 rating in the key demo, and Elementary (1.1 adults) was even with last week.
The end of Heroes Reborn pulled a flat 1.0 rating in the key demo. Both The Blacklist (1.5 adults) and Shades of Blue (1.4 adults) were steady — though the latter has proven to be an especially strong DVR performer. Its latest episode jumped 72 percent in the key demo after just three-days of time-shifting.
On ABC, Beyond the Tank (1.0 adults) and My Diet is Better than Yours (0.6 adults) both held.
