Mind-bending drama Falling Water is moving forward at USA Network.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network announced Thursday that the drama from late Homeland Emmy winner Henry Bromell and exec produced by Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead) has been picked up to series.
Bromell wrote and co-created the drama with frequent collaborator Blake Masters (Brotherhood, Rubicon) before his unexpected passing in 2013 following a heart attack. The prolific and beloved writer-producer was 65.
From Universal Cable Productions and executive produced by The Walking Dead's Gale Anne Hurd and her studio-based Valhalla banner, Falling Water is described as a mind-bending thriller intersecting reality and unconscious thoughts. The mind-bending drama, which is being exec produced and directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), is centers on three unrelated people who slowly realize that they are dreaming separate parts of a single common dream.
Each of them is on a mysterious and highly personal quest — one is searching for his missing girlfriend, one is searching for a lost child, one is looking to cure his catatonic mother — and it is the clues found in their collective dream that come to guide them. The deeper they dig, though, the more they come to realize that their missions touch on stakes that are much larger than their individual agendas. That the visions found in their common dream just might hold the key to the fate of the world.

"Today’s world demands shows that both challenge and reward the audience in spectacular ways," NBCU Cable Entertainment president and chief content officer Jeff Wachtel said. "Falling Water is the type of show that can move the needle of popular culture with its thrilling exploration of the dark side of the mind."
The order for Falling Water comes as USA Network has abandoned its former "Blue Skies" brand in favor of darker fare along the lines of newly minted Golden Globe winner Mr. Robot in a bid to court millennials.
The cabler, which this month launches Carlton Cuse-produced Josh Holloway/Sarah Wayne Callies starrer Colony.
On the pilot side, Falling Water is the first of the 2015-16 slate to earn a series pickup. Still in contention are the remake of Shooter, starring Ryan Phillippe; comic book adaptation Brooklyn Animal Control; Tim Kring's The Wilding; and Poor Richard's Almanack.
Falling Water joins a drama slate at USA that includes Mr. Robot, Satisfaction, Colony, Suits, Royal Pains and Queen of the South as well as bubble comedy Playing House.
For UCP-based Hurd, Falling Water becomes her fourth scripted show on cable and joins AMC's The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead as well as Syfy's Hunters.
