The comedy from the creator of 'Archer' will not move forward.
FXX is pulling the plug on animated project Cassius and Clay.
The cable network has opted to cancel the comedy series before its debut, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. A premiere date for the comedy, first developed in May, was never determined.
Picked up to series in August, the project from Archer creator Adam Reed and Modern Family's Megan Ganz produced only the pilot and was slated to be paired with the fellow animated comedy on the younger-skewing cable network.
Created in the vein of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the action-buddy comedy centered on two women living as bandits in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic America. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Kaitlin Olson led the voice cast as Cassius Cordwood, a hard-drinking, quick-thinking, fast-talking bullshitter who has more debts than sense. Lake Bell (Children's Hospital) was to voice Shopcarter Clay, the fastest gun in the post-apocalyptic South who doesn't go looking for trouble but shares a station wagon with it. Susan Sarandon (Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe) was set as Connie Mack, the ruthless and cutthroat owner of Wilke's only saloon and brothel. Mack runs the booze, the girls and effectively the whole town. The trio were set to serve as series regulars.
The 10-episode series was the latest collaboration for FX Productions and Floyd County Productions after the studio signed the animation powerhouse to an overall deal in February 2012. The company's credits also include short-lived FX animated comedies Chozen and Unsupervised, both of which were canceled after their first season.
For FX/FXX, the move comes after the cabler picked up an animated pilot from Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks and has been readying animated comedy Bigfoot from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
