Will Smith is insisting he would better portray President Obama in a movie than Idris Elba would. The actor joked that while Elba has “that British thing,” he’s perfecting his “Obama accent.”

During a sit-down with Vulture for an interview about his upcoming film Concussion, the reporter noted that Smith has portrayed real-life figures Muhammad Ali and Dr. Bennet Omalu, before asking when he’ll take on Obama for the long-rumored biopic about the president. “I don’t know. He’s got to write the end of the story,” said Smith. The actor added, “As soon as he finishes the third act! We talked about that, me and the president, probably about six months ago.”

The reporter then informed Smith of a rumor that Obama “wanted Idris Elba to play him,” but Smith maintained he was a better choice for the role. “Idris has got that British thing,” Smith noted. “He sounds so intelligent. I’ll have to work on my Obama accent and show him I can do it better than Idris.”

As Gossip Cop reported, Smith recently revealed he has real-life political aspirations. The actor expressed being “incensed” by the current political landscape and believed he might be needed to lend a voice to the situation. Tell Gossip Cop what you think about Smith pitching himself as a better President Obama than Idris Elba.
