Steve Harvey is still welcome back to host “Miss Universe” in 2016, despite making a major mistake by announcing the wrong winner at the end of the pageant, one of the show’s executives said on Tuesday.

As Gossip Cop reported, Harvey first named and had crowned runner-up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, but of course, the real Miss Universe winner was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. He then had come back out onstage to issue a live apology and correct the blunder.

Mark Shapiro, the Chief Content Officer of WME IMG, which owns Miss Universe, appeared on Tuesday’s “Jim Rome Show” to address the controversy. “It just was a flat-out mistake,” Shaprio explained, adding that they may consider reformatting the cue card going forward.

Shapiro went on to assure everyone that Harvey “felt terrible,” adding, “He was humiliated, he felt he humiliated her.” But Shapiro also insisted that the host shouldn’t be too hard on himself and, despite the screw-up, maintained that Harvey “did a great job.” He added, “He was funny, he was informative, he’s high energy, he’s got a great following.”

And finally, Shapiro revealed that not only was Harvey “absolutely” invited back to host next year’s ceremony, but he would “hate to see him not come back.” Shapiro added, “I’m sure FOX would support it… He’s going to want a shot to redeem himself.”

Tell Gossip Cop what you think about Harvey being forgiven for his “Miss Universe” mistake and invited back to host next year.
