This is the third time Springsteen has been the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.” Springsteen’s first time was back in 1992 when Tom Hanks served as its host. He then returned 10 years later in 2002 to perform, along with The E Street Band, when Matt Damon hosted “SNL.”

Springsteen’s appearance is in support of his recently reissued compilation album The Ties That Bind: The River Collection, as well as his upcoming tour. The Ties That Bind features the re-release of his hit 1980 album The River with a lot of extras, including previously unreleased tracks and never-before seen concert and rehearsal footage.

After “SNL,” Springsteen & The E Street Band will tour North America for two and a half months starting on January 16 in Pittsburgh. He’ll then hit several major cities, including Washington, DC, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, where he’ll play two shows at Madison Square Garden.
