Bruce Springsteen performed “The Ties That Bind” on this week’s “SNL.” For his first song, he sang “Meet Me In The City.” See the video below of Springsteen & The E Street Band’s performance of “The Ties That Bind” on “Saturday Night Live.”

Springsteen was on “SNL” to support the release of The Ties That Bind: The River Collection, which contains 52 tracks, and is a reissue of his album The River with many bonuses, including previously unseen footage from concerts and rehearsals dating back 35 years ago, as well as several unreleased songs.

Spingsteen talked about the original album The River while appearing earlier in the week on the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” He said he first handed in a single record, and then took it back because “it didn’t feel like quite enough.” After more work, he finally released The River. He explained, “We were trying to get a record that felt like our live show, that’s why it ended up being a double record.”

As Gossip Cop noted earlier, this marks Springsteen’s third time as the show’s musical guest. He first appeared in 1992 when Tom Hanks hosted “SNL,” and then he returned in 2002.
