One Direction won Artist of the Year at the 2015 American Music Awards on Sunday. Check out the video below!
Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Niall Horan all took the stage to accept the honor. Thanks to votes from fans, they beat Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Luke Bryan, and Nicki Minaj. Earlier in the night, the guys also accepted Favorite Duo or Group – Rock/Pop, and performed “Perfect,” as Gossip Cop reported.
Of course, this isn’t One Direction’s first time taking home the biggest award of the night. The group also won Artist Of The Year in 2014. And since 2013, they’ve been honored with four other wins on top of the aforementioned ones.
But the Artist of the Year win is especially meaningful this time around, as it caps off One Direction’s huge 2015 before the band goes on hiatus next year. As Gossip Cop has reported, One Direction will ring in 2016 on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” but then each singer will go his separate way for the foreseeable future. The group, of course, has promised that this is not a breakup, but it may be some time before they return to the American Music Awards.
