‘Harold & Kumar’ Duo Ink First-Look Deal With Lionsgate TV

Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg's first project with the studio is ABC's Kal Penn comedy 'Fair and Balanced.'

Lionsgate TV is expanding its roster of talent.

The studio has signed Harold & Kumar duo Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg to a first-look deal, the company announced Thursday.

Under the multiple-year pact, the duo will develop and produce original scripted comedy. Their first project is the previously announced ABC comedy script Fair and Balanced, which reunites them with Harold & Kumar star Kal Penn. The single-camera comedy, which is in the development stages, revolves around an up-and-coming NPR reporter (Penn) who is swayed to work at a staunchly conservative news channel.

The comedy is informed by some of will be informed by Penn's experiences appearing on news shows, as well as his time working in Washington, D.C., for President Obama.

Hurwitz and Schlossberg will write and executive produce under their Hurwitz & Schlossberg Productions banner with director of development Matt Lottman set as a co-producer. Penn will also exec produce alongside longtime manager and producing partner Dan Spilo of Industry Entertainment.

Best known for the Harold & Kumar franchise, the duo also wrote and directed 2012's American Pie sequel American Reunion. The duo have been friends since high school. The pair are also prepping The Pact at with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. They're repped by CAA and attorney Adam Kaller.

The duo join Joel Silver and Jenji Kohan, among others, at the studio.
