U2 has opted to cancel its planned concert Saturday in Paris following Friday's deadly attacks.
The show, part of its Innocence + Experience tour, was slated to be broadcast live on HBO. A repeat of feature film Jersey Boys will air in its place Saturday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
In a statement, the band said: "We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight. We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe."
The band was minutes away from the shootings Friday, Billboard reported. Lead singer Bono was rehearsing nearby at the Accor Hotels Arena — where the group was set to perform Saturday and Sunday. Band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. as well as crew members were promptly moved into lockdown and are safe at nearby accommodations, insiders said.
The news follows a series of deadly bombings late Friday in around Paris. French president Francois Hollande announced that he was closing the country's borders and declaring a state of emergency. Hollande has since canceled his planned trip to the G-20 meeting in Turkey.
As of press time, The Associated Press was reporting that the death toll could top 120 after shootings and explosions at six sites, including at a concert hall where patrons were taken hostage. The AFP reported that around 100 people were killed at the Paris concert hall where California-based band Eagles of Death Metal was scheduled to play.
HBO announced in July that it would air a live broadcast of U2's stop at Paris' Accor Hotels Arena. The band was slated to perform Saturday and Sunday at the Paris arena.
