Kris Jenner Uses Male Pronouns For Caitlyn, Defends Kardashian Brand

Kris Jenner ES Magazine Interview

(Evening Standard)

Kris Jenner is sounding off on Caitlyn Jenner and defending the Kardashian brand in a new interview.

The Kardashian-Jenner matriarch covers the new issue of ES Magazine, a sister publication to the London Evening Standard. She attempts to rebuff questions about Caitlyn’s transition, but her carefully-chosen words end up saying a lot. Asked if she thinks her ex was “intimidated” by her, Jenner replies, “I didn’t think so at the time, but perhaps. You’d have to ask him. Or her.”

She missteps with pronouns again when it’s noted how the public has shown support for Caitlyn’s transition. “He must feel really good about that,” she says. Jenner goes on to say, “I wish everybody well; when it comes to everybody else’s journey, as far as people that are trying to find themselves, this is a very fresh and new thing, so I think it’s important for me to let her tell her own story.”

Jenner further declines to discuss Kourtney Kardashian’s split from Scott Disick, and offers a brief comment about Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s hospitalization. “Khloe would never want anyone that she loves to be in a bad place or in pain,” she says. “When you love someone, you love someone. Family is family. We all love him.”

The “family” remark echoes what Jenner says about the clan’s priorities. She tells the magazine, “It’s about family. I teach my kids: ‘God first, family second, and everything else comes behind that.'” And when asked if there’s “times when the mother and the manager are in conflict,” the momager offers a swift denial.

“They’re complementary,” she claims. “Nobody has the kids’ best interests at heart like I do. I don’t want anything ever compromised, either one of my kids, or the brand.” She even describes “Keeping Up with the Kardashians as their “own home movies,” and knows that while her family is often the target of mockery, she insists, “We are in on the joke.”

Jenner argues, “There’s nothing anybody can say that we haven’t heard. We don’t pay attention. We’ve chosen to take the high road.” And she claims their non-stop, high-profile careers have “always” been “more about a lifestyle than possessions or money.” She adds, “It was about [my children] being able to provide for their families.”

The mom of Kendall and Kylie also hits back at criticism that “her daughters have added fuel to an already image-obsessed consumer culture for young girls.” Jenner says in response, “I don’t look at it that way. I see us as women who work hard. We want to do it all, we want to have families and we want to empower other women — men, too.”

One of those empowered guys includes Kanye West. Jenner says of Kim Kardashian’s husband, who is currently living at the family’s main home, “He and I get along really well. He’s anally tidy — exactly like the rest of us.” The story notes, however, the “commotion” of the interview and photo shoot at the house led the rapper to “slip out.”

In fact, the whole thing was filmed for “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” And Jenner seems pleased with the finished result. She posted on Instagram on Friday, “I’m honored to be on the cover of @eveningstandardmagazine!! Out today in London!! #eveningstandard #ESMagazine.” TELL US: What do you think of Jenner’s comments?
