Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston are not “frenemies,” despite a new report. Gossip Cop can exclusively debunk this claim, which began in the pages of one of this week’s tabloids. We’re told any insinuation that the two women are no longer good friends is “complete BS.”
According OK!, the “intense competition” over getting movie roles has ruined their friendship. The tabloid notes that nearly 20 years ago, Aniston and Diaz starred together in She’s The One, but now, says one of the magazine’s ill-informed sources, they’re “angling for the same roles, and Cam isn’t happy about losing out.”
The tabloid writes that Diaz wanted the part of Sandy is Garry Marshall’s upcoming movie Mother’s Day. “Cameron loved the script, but Jennifer beat her to the punch,” says a so-called “insider,” adding, “There was a time when Cam got first dibs; now she can’t bear to hear Jennifer’s name.”
Before Gossip Cop gets to the official busting of this story, read the last quote carefully, and you’ll see how not only were the remarks fabricated, but just how poorly they were done. The person who made up the quotes in OK! says in back-to-back sentences, “Cameron loved the script” and “Cam got first dibs.” That’s like a person saying, “Nicole loved the script” and “Nic got first dibs.” No real person calls someone they know two different variations of their name in a running conversation.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with sources, and not one person close to either Aniston or Diaz could confirm the tabloid’s claim. In fact, Aniston’s rep exclusively tells us the magazine’s report is “complete BS.”
Of course, Gossip Cop is not remotely surprised by the tabloid’s misfire. Remember, this is the same magazine that had a cover story in January that claimed a pregnant Diaz was going to get married in Napa Valley in the Spring, but Drew Barrymore wouldn’t be invited because the two were allegedly feuding. In the real world, a not pregnant Diaz had actually already gotten married in Beverly Hills, and Barrymore was one of her bridesmaids. As for Aniston, OK! clearly knows nothing about her, having reported the actress was pregnant with twins in 2012, 2013, and again in 2015.
