Jenner sat courtside at Sunday’s Los Angeles Lakers game, much as she has countless times over the years. This time, however, the sighting was apparently enough to sparks claims she was there to support Russell, her supposed new boyfriend. HollywoodLife, for instance, wrote that “judging by her super sexy look and her serious attention to the game,” Jenner “added fuel to the dating fire.”
Yes, because Jenner couldn’t have possibly been genuinely interested in the game, or, you know, hotly dressed like she always is at events. But that was all it took for the webloid to run two follow-up stories. First came “D’Angelo Russell: 5 Things To Know About Kendall Jenner’s Rumored New Crush,” followed by a so-called “exclusive.”
“Kendall Jenner & D’Angelo Russell: ‘Sparks Fly’ Whenever They Are In the Same Room,” reads the headline of their third story on this non-romance in a single day. Hours after speculating Jenner and Russell could possibly be a couple, the site magically managed to find a “source” to back up its claims, and gush about “how things are heating up for the pair.”
It’s so transparent to the point of being funny. As Gossip Cop has demonstrated over the years, HollywoodLife loves picking up a rumor without fact-checking, and then using it to spawn multiple false stories all in the name of getting Google to send over search traffic and tricking readers into delivering multiple clicks.
But had the outlet taken the time to investigate, it would know Jenner and Russell are little more than acquaintances, and that her attendance at the Lakers game actually had nothing to do with him whatsoever. But you know HollyoodLies. Why let the truth get in the way of a juicy headline… or three?
