Justin Theroux is NOT “running for mayor of Los Angeles,” despite a new report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim. A rep tells us the allegation is 100 percent untrue.

The rumor comes from RadarOnline, which alleges Theroux “is quietly considering ‘pulling an Arnie’ by trading in acting for a career in politics, just like Schwarzenegger did when he became the governor of California.” The webloid quotes a so-called “friend” as explaining that the actor has “always had a keen interest in politics and philosophy,” and “always had this dream” of becoming L.A.’s mayor.

“Lately he’s gotten quite serious about making it happen as a first step to bigger political aspirations,” claims the outlet’s supposed source. It’s even said that Theroux has wife Jennifer Aniston’s “help.” Adds the alleged tipster, “Justin’s inspired Jen to see the world in a different way and adopt some of his more unusual philosophies, [and] Jen’s encouraging Justin to take himself more seriously.”

It’s an interesting idea, but just like all the stories falsely claiming George Clooney will run for office, Theroux has no plans to pursue any supposed mayoral aspirations. A rep for the actor exclusively tells Gossip Cop that the RadarOnline report is “false.” It’s also worth noting that current mayor Eric Garcetti still has two years left in his term.
