Khloe Kardashian gives her first interview about Lamar Odom’s health crisis in the new issue of People, which features her on the cover.
Kardashian initially spoke to the magazine prior to Odom’s medical emergency, discussing her upcoming book. But following his hospitalization, she had a follow-up discussion opening up about the tragic situation. As Gossip Cop reported, Kardashian rushed to Odom’s bedside, and just last week called off their divorce.
But the reality star stresses that it’s not a romantic reconciliation. “There are too many other important things, too many medical things,” she says. “It’s not even in our brains thinking about us as a couple or having a relationship right now.”
Kardashian goes on to explain, “I loved him always, and I will always love him. I don’t believe love is fickle. I believe when you love someone, you are allowed to love from afar. You don’t have to be with that person in order to love him.”
For now Kardashian is honoring their vows, in sickness and in health, and focusing on Odom’s recovery. Reflecting on when she first found out about Odom’s status, she tells People, “All I knew was I had to get there. I had to get to him and make sure he was okay. I hate that he was in that situation. I wouldn’t want anybody in that situation, especially someone I love and care about.”
“The fact that he woke up was definitely a sigh of relief for everybody,” she later says of Odom’s current status. “Every hour is different. It goes up and it goes down but he’s awake. He’s alive and that’s all I wanted, was for him to be okay.”
That said, the reality star knows Odom is not out of the woods yet, acknowledging, “There is a very long road ahead of [him].” She goes on, “He has to walk that road by himself, and, most importantly, he has to want to walk that road. I will be there supporting him every step of the way.”
