The comedy joins drama 'Rosewood' in getting a back nine at the network.
Fox is committing to a full season of The Grinder. The network has handed out an order for another nine episodes of the Rob Lowe and Fred Savage brother comedy.
The order comes after a pretty soft run in live-plus-same day ratings. And the latest live-plus-seven day numbers have the series averaging a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.96 million viewers. Still, that's a vast improvement from what the network was doing in the time slot last fall. It's up 70 percent from reality show Utopia.
This news also bodes well for neighboring comedy Grandfathered. The 8 p.m. lead-in actually fares slightly better in the ratings, both live and DVR, and a back-nine is considered likely. (The Grinder is produced by 20th Century Fox TV, while Grandfathered is a partnership between 20th TV and ABC Studios.)
"The Grinder is the perfect combination of razor-sharp wit and relatable family dynamics -- two hallmarks of successful comedies," said Fox Broadcasting Company entertainment president David Madden. “The critics have embraced this original, fresh and funny show, and the talented cast – led by Rob Lowe and Fred Savage -- have done such an incredible job infusing it with biting humor and heartfelt moments. We are so excited about the storylines that these fantastic producers have planned for the rest of the season."

Critics have been favorable towards The Grinder. It's fared better than the fall's scant other comedic offerings.
The Grinder joins fellow Fox rookie Rosewood in getting a full-season order. On the other Big Four nets, NBC's Blindspot, ABC's Quantico and Dr. Ken and CBS' Limitless.
Fox's Tuesday lineup is dark this week, with the World Series kicking off on the network. The Grinder returns Tuesday, Nov. 3.
