Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez are divorcing. See statement below.
Berry has filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. The soon-to-be exes have a prenuptial agreement that is expected to guide the proceedings. She is said to want a quick divorce, with an amicable plan drawn up for custody of their son.
In a statement, Berry and Martinez jointly say, “It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son. We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.”
Berry and Martinez met on the set of 2010’s Dark Tide. Sources close to the Oscar winner initially denied a romance was brewing back then, but they later went public with their relationship. In 2012, the former co-stars became engaged, despite Berry once proclaiming she would never marry again.
In July of 2013, Berry and Martinez wed in his native France. A few months later, in October, they welcomed baby boy Maceo. The little boy just turned 2 earlier this month.
He is the actress’ second child, following daughter Nahla. Nahla’s father is Gabriel Aubry, who has had a infamously testy dynamic with Martinez. Prior to those two relationships, Berry was wed to Eric Benet and David Justice.
The news of the split comes one week after Berry and Martinez were sued for $5 million by a Los Angeles International Airport employee, who was shoved by the actor during an incident earlier this year. One report claims the suit was a “breaking point” for the stars. RadarOnline falsely claimed a divorce was “imminent” in early August, nearly three months ago. Gossip Cop will have updates.
