“The Martian” Returns To Number One At Weekend Box Office

The Martian Wins Box Office Again

The Martian will safely return to its spot atop the box office this weekend thanks to several big bombs.

As Gossip Cop reported, the critically-acclaimed movie featuring Matt Damon stranded on Mars rocketed to number one when it was released earlier this month. It landed the top stop again in its second weekend. Then last week, it was pushed out by Goosebumps.

But an overall disappointing box office weekend has the potential Oscar contender on track to reclaim the throne. The Martian is expected to take the number one spot with $15.1 million. Goosebumps would drop to second at $14.7 million.

Bringing in a box office total of $11.3 million could put Bridge Of Spies in third. The new Vin Diesel movie, The Last Witch Hunter, is likely to open in the number four spot with receipts of just $9.5 million. It may be followed by Hotel Transylvania 2, which is looking at $8.5 million to take fifth.

With only a possible $7.1 million, Steve Jobs is eyeing sixth in its first weekend of wide-release. Thriller sequel Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension could land in the number seven spot if it rakes in $6.9 million. Rounding out the Top 10 may be Crimson Peak ($5.3 million), The Intern ($3.7 million), and Sicario ($2.8 million).

All figures are currently estimates, and Gossip Cop will have updates. TELL US: What are YOU seeing this weekend?
