Lamar Odom has undergone emergency surgery.
Odom had two medical procedures done involving his chest, but it’s not clear if both were carried out on Thursday. It’s also not known what sparked the operations. As Gossip Cop reported, Odom’s heart function improved last week, but more recently, it was said he was suffering from a respiratory infection, specifically pneumonia.
According to TMZ, which first reported the surgeries, Odom has been left in a “fragile mental state.” The complication has led doctors to ban visitors from his hospital room, aside from Khloe Kardashian. It’s unclear if that means his own children cannot visit either.
As Gossip Cop reported, Odom was transferred from a Las Vegas hospital to Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earlier this week. He has remained in critical condition and on dialysis, with his kidneys continuing to fail. There have been conflicting reports as to how much Odom can move and speak.
The news of Odom’s surgeries come one day after his divorce from Kardashian was called off. As Gossip Cop noted, they were still legally married at the time of his health crisis last week, as a judge had not yet approved their signed divorce papers. That made her next of kin and in the position to make all treatment decisions.
The divorce papers, however, have now been dismissed, with Kardashian and Odom apparently choosing to remain married for the foreseeable future. That keeps the reality star as the basketball player’s primary caregiver. Kardashian broke her silence on the situation on Tuesday, expressing gratitude for the support Odom has received.
Earlier Thursday, a police document revealed Odom was suspected of taking cocaine and unidentified pills at the Nevada brothel prior to his medical emergency. Gossip Cop will continue to have updates.
