Fox is looking to put a new spin on the cop drama.
The network has handed out a script commitment to an untitled drama based on the New York Times story "Who Runs the Streets of New Orleans?"
The drama is inspired by the article and explores what happens when an enigmatic tech billionaire makes a deal with a bankrupt, dying city to provide a privately owned and operated police force.
Person of Interest co-EP David Slack will pen the script and exec produce the 20th Century Fox Television drama alongside Len Wiseman, who will direct the pilot should the drama move forward. David Bernardi, Dennis Kim and Todd Hoffman will also exec produce.
Slack, repped by UTA and Hansen Jacobson, previously developed drama Protect and Survive at ABC with Shondaland. Before that, he was a supervising producer on Lie to Me and producer on In Plain Sight. His credits also include multiple seasons of Law & Order.
For Wiseman, who has an overall deal with 20th TV, he next has Fox's DC Comics entry Lucifer due midseason and recently signed on to direct the sixth Die Hard film.
