Caitlyn Jenner's journey is just getting started.

E! has renewed I Am Cait for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Season two will premiere in 2016.

After months of rumors that Jenner would headline her own reality series, I Am Cait was formally announced during the one-time Olympian's sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer for 20/20. That conversation, which marked Jenner's first public acknowledgement of her decision to transition, drew more than 20 million viewers and led to high anticipation for I Am Cait.

When the E! series ultimately premiered in July, it drew 3.9 million viewers and 1.8 demo rating once three days of viewing were factored in. While it was a mere fraction of Jenner's 20/20 audience, it nonetheless ranks as the network's biggest new series launch in more than a decade. By episode two, however, that viewership had slid to 3.2 million.

Where I Am Cait drew the bulk of its praise was for its sensitive handling of trans issues, hardly a given considering Jenner's reality roots. Though the docuseries showcased many members of the larger-than-life Kardashian family, including Kim and Kris Jenner, each episode also featured educational and poignant moments. Among the latter: when Jenner visited the family of a transgender teen who had recently committed suicide in the very first episode.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the conversation,” Jenner said in a statement.

I Am Cait has also had an impressive global impact, too, airing in 153 countries and 24 languages.

“Caitlyn’s story has ignited a global conversation on the transgender community on a scale that has never been seen before,” said E! evp, programming and development, Jeff Olde. “We are honored Caitlyn has chosen to continue to share her ongoing evolution with our viewers around the world.”

Jenner exec produces I Am Cait along with Gil Goldschein, Jeff Jenkins, Farnaz Farjam, Andrea Metz and Melissa Bidwell for Bunim/Murray Productions.

Jenner is represented by CAA and Jeff Bernstein.
