Great Scott! Wednesday, Oct. 21, was known as Back to the Future Day, as it was the original date that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) plugged into their time machines to travel into a different, more advanced world in the 1989 classic film. So on that milestone date, Marty and Doc Brown hopped in their DeLorean time machine and traveled to the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pair rolled onto the Brooklyn, N.Y. set of the show (where the normally L.A.-based show is shooting for a week) on Tuesday night to ask Kimmel, 47, about life in the future. It turns out, we’re not as evolved as the duo had hoped we’d be.

“2015? That’s heavy. All these people must have gotten here in their flying cars,” Fox, 54, as McFly declared.

“No, we never did figure out flying cars, actually,” Kimmel said.

McFly and Brown were excited to learn that people were watching them on their TVs, but disappointed when Kimmel noted, “People are watching us on TV right now, though honestly most people will watch us on their phones on the toilet tomorrow.”

Finally, Lloyd, 77, as Doc Brown asked, “What the hell have you guys been doing for 30 years?”
“Oh, let’s see, we invented this thing call the cronut,” the comedian quipped. “It’s part croissant and part donut and they put them together and it’s actually quite delicious.”

“Doc, it seems like 2015 kind of sucks,” McFly noted.
Kimmel then pulled out his smartphone to take a selfie with the pair from the past. McFly was also curious about Biff Tannen, the man who bullied his father around and later became a casino owner who “ruined the world.”

“Oh, that guy’s running for president right now. He’s doing very well actually,” Kimmel said, poking fun at GOP candidate Donald Trump.

Before Doc Brown left, Kimmel asked him if he knew how he would die.
“Next week a bunch of angry children will tear you to shreds when you tell their mothers to take away their Halloween candy,” Brown said, referencing Kimmel’s viral video series.
