It's the end of the road for Discovery staple MythBusters.
The cable network has opted to conclude its Emmy-winning unscripted series with its upcoming 14th season, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
As first reported by EW, the Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman series will wrap up in 2016 after 248 episodes and 2,950 experiments.
The series underwent some creative changes in 2014 when longtime MythBusters investigators Kari Byron, Tory Belleci and Grant Imahara exited the veteran docuseries after being part of the team for more than a decade. Their departures were announced at the end of an August episode as the series plots a new direction. Co-hosts Savage and Hyneman noted at the time that the series would return to its "origins," with just the duo overseeing it.
While MythBusters is ending, the Savage and Hyneman are looking to expand into scripted territory with a CIA drama inspired by their real-life experience in the works at CBS. The untitled drama, from Gail Berman and MGM Television, revolves around two Hollywood special effects artists who are recruited by the CIA to complete seemingly impossible covert ops missions by creatively using the most basic tools from their craft. Savage and Hyneman will exec produce.
Mythbusters debuted in 2003 and went on to earn seven Emmy nominations. The final season will see the duo take on some of the biggest myths the series has ever tested in categories including car stunts, social science, viral videos, explosions and rockets.
Sibling network Science Channel will feature a marathon of every episode ever starting Dec. 23 and running through Jan. 3.

Adam and Jamie are enormous talents who have brought learning and science to the forefront of this network, and their legacy will continue to live on over at Science Channel. The Mythbusters library will be moving over to Discovery’s sister network in 2016, where I know audiences new and old alike will be able to experience and learn with Adam and Jamie and the rest of the Mythbusters family," Discovery Group president Rich Ross said in a statement announcing the news Wednesday.
