Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are NOT “splitting up,” despite a new report from one of the tabloids. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim. A rep for Gellar tells us the story has “no merit.”
The allegation can be found in the new issue of Star, which hit newsstands on Wednesday with the claim that Geller and Prinze “are struggling to keep their marriage alive.” According to the magazine, “the trouble began” in the wake of the actor’s spinal surgery last year. “Since then, Freddie’s grown content on the couch, playing video games instead of getting paid to voice them,” a so-called “source” is quoted as saying.
The alleged “pal” goes on to claim that while when Gellar recently stepped out to support their involvement with “Star Wars Rebels,” “Freddie left her doing the whole thing on her own.” Now “with Freddie holding on tight to his new role as stay-at-home-dad,” writes Star, “friends worry where these two are headed.” The supposed “source” adds, “They’ve been walking on thin ice for a while now, and it seems like Sarah’s ready to throw in the towel.”
This is all patently untrue. And what’s worse is that Star was told in advance that its claims were false, but the tabloid went ahead with its erroneous story anyway. A rep for Geller exclusively tells Gossip Cop the allegations are “so off-base,” and questions why Star is “wasting people’s time calling for a comment and then not printing it.” The spokesperson quite understandably calls it all “frustrating.”
Gossip Cop suspects Star only bothered to call Gellar’s rep to assure their own legal team that they covered their bases. But as the spokesperson rightly points out, the magazine is just trying to “get people to believe them.” It should also be noted that Gellar is constantly talking about her family, and she and Prinze are always lovingly interacting on social media. In fact, the above Instagram photo is from their recent “date night.” In the words of Gellar’s rep, “It must be another slow news week” for Star.
