The Grey's Anatomy season 12 trailer has arrived.
While it's a short 20 seconds, the new footage offers a glimpse at a the Shondaland drama's post-McDreamy makeover. Or as Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) says it, "You are about to find out that everything has changed."
But don't look for the depressing stories from season 11 to seep into the new season — the promo instead is dramatically upbeat despite featuring Amelia taking on home renovation (much to roommate Mer's chagrin) and Maggie, for reasons unexplained, taking a swing at someone (to even her own surprise).
As showrunner Shonda Rhimes previously told THR, season 12 will feature the humor, snark and banter that predominated Grey's Anatomy's early seasons. "Meredith being a widow, surprisingly, should be funny in some ways. She's been a woman who has been off the market forever and that humor of 'I'm dead inside, I'm not interested in men,' should be funny in a way. She should have some darker humor in that feeling."
As for the living arrangements now that Mer is back in the house that Ellis made with sisters Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), look for humor there, too. "Meredith needs support right now and she is related to them so it's not the same as when she was living with Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. Knight) and liked them. She doesn't necessarily need to like them to love them and be in a house with them. It's a fascinating dynamic — it's family."
