Celebrities are reacting to the death of basketball great Moses Malone, who died on Sunday at 60. Malone was the NBA’s MVP three times and was inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame in 2001. Malone played professionally for more than 20 years and earned the nickname “Chairman of the Boards” for his outstanding rebounding. A member of a number of teams during his more than 20-year career, including the Houston Rockets, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the San Antonio Spurs, Malone remains to this day in the top 10 for all-time career points scored and rebounds. Sheryl Underwood tweeted, “NBA legend Moses Malone dies at age 60… Rest With The Lord!” And Josh Elliott remembered, “As an young Angeleno, Moses Malone was one of the first opposing players I hated–and feared–for being so good. What a great player. #RIP.” Gabrielle Union added, “#RIPMosesMalone HUGE loss… great player, even better man. Gone way too soon!”
DL Hughley simply expressed, “Rest in peace Moses Malone!” Michael Rapaport tweeted, “Moses Malone. Damn it. #MosesMalone,” followed by a second note that read, “Moses Malone was the 1st person to make rebounding ‘cool’ #MosesMalone.” Greta Van Susteren reported, “Moses Malone, a three-time NBA MVP, Hall of Famer and 13-time All-Star, died on Sunday at the age of 60.” Morris Chestnut paid his respects, too: “R.I.P Moses Malone NBA Hall of Famer. #NBA #Sixers.” And Sinbad tweeted, “I can’t believe Moses Malone passed away last night. We came out of high school the same year ! I loved you big man!”
Several basketball stars past and present also remembered Malone. Scottie Pippen tweeted, “Another one of the game’s legends gone too soon. A champion & one of the elite players of his time. RIP Moses Malone.” Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant wrote, “#Rip to the great Moses Malone.” LeBron James also said, “RIP to one of the greatest to ever play the game, Moses Malone.”
Shaq offered, “Rest in Heaven to The Great Moses Malone. You will be missed but NEVER forgotten.” Dennis Rodman wrote, “Sending my love and condolences to the family of my friend, and @NBA legend Moses Malone. @Hoophall.” And Walt Frazier expressed, “My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Moses Malone. One of the greatest #basketball players gone way too soon.”
