Serena and Venus Williams faced off in a historic match-up at the 2015 U.S. Open on Tuesday, and many celebrities were riveted. As Gossip Cop reported, Serena defeated Venus, and a number of stars took to Twitter with their in-the-moment reactions.

Even before the quarterfinal round officially kicked off, stars were anticipating something special. “Waiting for you know who and you know who …what we all know is that a williams sister will win tonite,” Gayle King posted on Instagram along with a photo of herself and Oprah in the stands. Others in attendance ranged from Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner to Donald Trump and Kendrick Lamar.

Rosie O’Donnell was one fan watching from home, humorously tweeting, “williams vs williams – i am betting on both.” Star Jones also posted, “Real excited about #SerenaVsVenus. So thrilled for both. I guarantee you guys this. A Williams will win today!” And Gabrielle Union said, “These beautiful queens… Sisters… Win or lose, they stay winning! So much love and respect.”

As the main event got underway, Laverne Cox wrote on Twitter, “This match is ON.” Valerie Bertinelli tweeted, “Wow. These ladies are amazing.” Beth Behrs simply declared, “Venus and Serena. BAM.” Debra Messing further stated, “Serena. Venus. It’s EVERYTHING.”

After Serena took the first set, and then Venus won the second, the stakes rose dramatically in the third. But in the end, Serena pulled out the win, and the congratulations came pouring in. Mary J. Blige, for instance, posted on both Twitter and Instagram, “Congrats to @serenawilliams well done!!!”

Octavia Spencer tweeted, “So thrilled to witness tonights game w/ @Venuseswilliams & @serenawilliams playing their hearts out. Congrats #Serena.” Union said “2 QUEENS, 2 CHAMPIONS. .. I’m in awe and so inspired by the exceptional talent, grace, class, and LOVE!” And LeBron James wrote, “‘The Williams Sisters’ are AMAZING!!! @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams. My daughter will look up to y’all.”

“Yasssss @serenawilliams,” Eva Longoria exclaimed on Twitter with applause emojis. Jones later commented, “Our girls @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams #broughttheheat @usopen! Time for #Serena to shower #grandslam fire!” Dwyane Wade remarked, “That was so uncomfortable to watch.. but a great match.. @serenawilliams and @Venuseswilliams are both great champions…” Cox further noted, “This was very emotional watching #SerenavsVenus at the #USOpen2015. So much heart and soul. Living history. #LivingLegend. Love you both.”

Ne-Yo wrote to the sibling athletes, “@serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams congrats ladies! You played one hell of a game.” Gigi Hadid, who was in attendance, posted on Instagram, “Congrats @serenawilliams! On to the @usopen semifinals.” And Lindsey Vonn tweeted, “That was one of the best #WilliamsSisters matches I’ve seen! Congrats to both amazing women! @serenawilliams @Venuseswilliams.”
