“The View” had its highly-anticipated season 19 premiere on Tuesday, with the official return of Joy Behar and Candace Cameron Bure’s debut as a permanent co-host. Check out the video below!
The live show kicked off with returning moderator Whoopi Goldberg and co-hosts Behar, Raven-Symone, Michelle Collins, and newbie Paula Faris walking out on stage to a standing ovation. “Yes, here we are — the beginning of season 19,” exclaimed Goldberg. She continued, “That’s right, 19 years ago Barbara Walters created this show to give chicks… a voice to heard, and, boy, are we carrying on that mission.”
Goldberg went on to say, “One of the people who took you through that entire journey is the fabulous Joy Behar.” With that, Behar received extended applause from the studio audience. Always quick to make a joke, she responded by saying, “I’m happy to be back, but when I saw my husband sleeping this morning when I was getting dressed to come here, I said, ‘What did I do?!'”
Collins, who revealed she just moved from L.A. to New York, was treated to a video message from Jerry O’Connell, before he walked out on stage with flowers for each of the ladies. “Everyone’s late mornings just got a whole lot funnier,” declared the actor before running off. And while Raven-Symone spoke about her end-of-summer blow-out party, Faris established herself as family-oriented by speaking about her husband and three kids.
Goldberg, who complained about the camera lighting on her making her appear blue like a Smurf, later said, “Hell, you guys, it’s nice to be back,” before again going on to complain, this time about the design of the season 19 mugs. She was eager to get on with the show’s typical Hot Topics, only to then be taken aback by an unexpected sound effect.
She and Faris went on to butt heads a little bit when discussing jailed Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, and noticeably absent this entire time was Bure. She finally came out after the second commercial break, about halfway through the broadcast, and joined the other women at the increasingly-crowded table. The former child star spoke about her family and “Fuller House,” and explained that the Netflix series would keep her from being on “The View” every day.
“This is new fun for me, and I’m happy to be part of this team,” said Bure. And then Hot Topics resumed, with no explanation for why she wasn’t participating from the start. And when Whoopi Goldberg later alluded to her vibrator, a bashful Bure asked, “Did we just go there?” Goldberg responded, “Yes, we did. That is welcome to ‘The View’!”
