Robert Pattinson did NOT skip the Venice Film Festival to “avoid” Kristen Stewart, despite a report. Gossip Cop can exclusively correct the claim.
Pattinson was initially confirmed to attend the Venice Film Festival for the premiere of The Childhood Of A Leader before he had to back out due to film commitments in Belfast for The Lost City Of Z. But according to the New York Post, that was just an “excuse,” and Pattinson “never planned on coming” in the first place. And the reason is all supposedly due to Stewart also being at the Venice Film Festival to premiere her own movie, Equals.
A so-called “spy” is quoted as telling the tabloid, “He didn’t want the story to be all about how he and Kristen were nearly bumping into each other. Venice is very small… and there are only so many parties and hotels.”
So Pattinson supposedly skipped the film fest because he didn’t want stories to be about him and Stewart. But that logic falls short for several reasons, the first being that not attending because of her undoubtedly leads to stories about them, too, as the New York Post itself has just proven. The paper is also overlooking two other big holes in its claims.
First off, Pattinson had no problem attending the Hollywood Film Awards last year, even though he knew Stewart would be at ceremony as well. If he was so concerned about being in the same place as his ex, then that wouldn’t have happened. But it did, there were no incidents between them, and life went on.
Second, the New York Post is further ignoring the fact that Pattison also skipped the Life premiere at the Deauville American Film Festival on Monday. As Gossip Cop previously reported, the actor was originally expected to attend, in large part because he was to be honored with the Hollywood Rising Star Award. Stewart, of course, had nothing to do with that event, though, so why was Pattinson missing in action?
For the same reason he had to bail on the Venice Film Festival. Pattinson has been tethered to The Lost World Of Z production, plain and simple. It’s unfortunate that the filming schedule prevented him from attending two major events, but that’s really all it was. Gossip Cop is exclusively told that outlets like the New York Post that are trying to blame Pattinson’s absence from Venice on Stewart are trying to “create drama when there is none,” particularly by conveniently failing to mention he skipped the Stewart-free Deauville, too. Stewart and Pattinson have moved on, and it’s long past time the Post did, too.
