The new season of the ABC series premieres on Sept. 14.

Bindi Irwin is the first celebrity contestant set to compete in the upcoming, 21st season of Dancing With the Stars.

The announcement was made on Monday's Good Morning America with Bindi in the show's New York studio to talk about her excitement and nerves about competing.

The daughter of late crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, Bindi admitted that she was "for sure" more nervous about dancing than she is about wrangling crocodiles, noting that she just returned from an annual crocodile research trip a few days earlier.

"The judges scare me more than crocodiles," Bindi said on GMA. "They're so knowledgeable. They're supreme athletes. I'm just this girl from Australia who's used to crocs."

Although she said she's "quite nervous" about her new adventure, she's "really really excited" to take on the challenge.

"It's all about having the courage and strength," Bindi said. "For me it is something completely different, but I hope that I'm able to inspire others in their own lives to seize opportunities and just jump, take that leap, even if it terrifies you."

The 17-year-old has carried on the legacy of her dad, working to protect animals and the planet. Appearing on camera from an early age, Bindi also hosted the game show Bindi's Boot Camp, appeared in movies and has her own clothing line.

She even has a little dance experience, hosting a workout video for children, part of which was shown on Monday's GMA.

Bindi said her mother and brother will be her support system throughout her Dancing With the Stars experience.

"And I just hope that my dance partner, whoever it is, is very patient and likes animals," she added.
