'Bones' alum Nkechi Carroll will pen the script, which has received a significant penalty from the network.
Howard Gordon is looking to bring a new take on the medical drama.
The prolific producer behind Homeland and Tyrant is teaming with Bones alum Nkechi Carroll to develop a medical drama for Fox, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The untitled drama, which has received a script pickup with a significant penalty attached, is described as a medical franchise centered around three young, brilliant doctors who grew up together in Compton and are reunited at an extraordinary cutting-edge hospital in Beverly Hills. Now the shared secrets from their past force them to straddle the line between the opulence of their new world and the hard streets they came from.

Carroll will pen the script and exec produce alongside Gordon and his Teakwood Lane Productions head of television Hugh Fitzpatrick. Both Carroll and Gordon are based at 20th Century Fox Television, which will produce the drama.
For Gordon, this marks the producer's first sale of the development season. The producer next has Fox's freshman drama The Frankenstein Code, which does not yet have a premiere date. In addition to Homeland, Gordon is also behind a potential second limited series in the 24 franchise as well as TNT's Legends. He's repped by WME, 3 Arts and Gendler & Kelly.
Carroll, meanwhile, is currently serving on the writing staff of Fox's upcoming rookie medical drama Rosewood starring Morris Chestnut that is set to premiere Sept. 23. Repped by WME, her credits include Bones spinoff The Finder as well as web series A Breath of Fresh Air With Jon and Nkechi, which she co-hosts with her husband Jonathan Carroll. She worked at the Federal Reserve before her TV writing career.
Medical dramas were one of the biggest trends last development season and carried through to the fall, with Rosewood joined by NBC's Chicago Med and Heartbreaker, CBS' Code Black.
