Mumford & Sons were once in a boy band with Jimmy Kimmel called “Mumtown,” at least according to a “documentary” on Wednesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Watch the funny video below!
The videotaped segment titled, “Behind the Mumfords,” told the unknown history of the British rock band. In the ’90s, Kimmel was performing alongside band members Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall, and Ted Dwane. But back then they were known as “Mumtown,” and performed songs with titles like “I’m Saying, Girl, Girl,” “Package 4-U,” and “O.M.G.U.H.O.T.”
We learn in the documentary that Kimmel’s band nickname was “Mum,” and the other members of the group wouldn’t allow him to sing, even going so far as to duct tape his mouth during concerts. The band’s hatred for Kimmel reached its breaking point when he wrote the song, “I Am My Heart,” which referred to a heart having knees, and not in a metaphorical way.
As is the case with many musical groups, especially boy bands, the guys had a falling out with one of its own. Kimmel eventually left Mumtown to start a solo career, which apparently entailed hosting a late-night talk show.
