Orlando Bloom is officially returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. It was announced on Saturday at the D23 Expo that the actor will indeed appear in the next installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales.
Bloom, of course, originated the role of Will Turner in the first film, The Curse Of The Black Pearl, in 2003. He reprised the character for 2006’s Dead Man Chest and 2007 At World’s End. But he, Keira Knightley, and a few other co-stars sat out On Stranger Tides in 2011.
The actor had expressed a willingness to possibly take part in the fifth film, but production seemed to take place without him earlier this year. But the confirmation of Bloom’s return means he either filmed some scenes in secret, or there’s still more to shoot.
And while Bloom wasn’t at the annual fan convention in Anaheim, Depp was. He made not one, but not two surprise appearances. The star was honored during Friday’s “legends” ceremony, and then showed up in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume during the studio’s live-project panel on Saturday afternoon.
With the release of Dead Men Tell No Tales not slated until July 2017, fans have a of time to figure out just how Bloom will figure in to the plot. TELL US: Are you happy Bloom is back for another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel?
