Will Smith is set to produce a reboot of his classic sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” which ran on NBC from 1990-1996. The show will reportedly put a new twist on the original series.
On the original show, Smith played a wisecracking teen from the tough streets of Philadelphia who’s sent to live with his affluent relatives in Bel-Air, California. The series propelled Smith to superstardom, and also made household names out of actors like Alfonso Ribeiro and Tatyana Ali. Smith is not expected to appear on the “Fresh Prince” reboot, although a cameo is always a possibility. Instead, he’ll remain behind-the-scenes as a producer along with wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.
The new “Fresh Prince” marks yet another revival of a hit ’90’s TV show. As Gossip Cop previously reported, Netflix ordered a 13-episode continuation of “Full House,” titled “Fuller House,” with most of the original cast reprising their roles. Other recently announced reboots of ’90s series include “The X-Files” and “Coach,” while “Girl Meets World,” a continuation of “Boy Meets World,” is already airing on the Disney Channel.
According to TVLine, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reboot is still in the very early stages of development. Tell Gossip Cop what you think about Will Smith producing a new version of the “Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.”
