Sarah Jessica Parker’s ‘Divorce’ Comedy Ordered to Series at HBO

Bringing the 'Sex and the City' star back to the network after more than a decade.

It's official: Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to HBO.

More than a decade after Sex and the City concluded its run, the premium cable network has handed out a series order to its Parker-led single-camera comedy Divorce, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Divorce centers on Frances (Parker), a middle-aged woman, who, influenced by her two recently single friends (Molly Shannon, Talia Balsam), impulsively brings up the idea of divorce with her husband (Thomas Haden Church) but then can't decide whether to actually go through with it — until her husband discovers the affair she's been having and calls the marriage off. 

In addition to starring, Parker executive produces via her Pretty Matches Productions banner. Sharon Horgan, whose recent U.S. pilots include Fox's Dead Boss as well as ABC's Bad Management and Pulling, penned the script. Aaron Kaplan, Paul Simms (Girls, Bored to Death, Flight of the Conchords) and Pretty Matches president Alison Benson will also executive produce. Horgan is set as showrunner, with Simms as co-showrunner. Jesse Peretz directed the pilot.

For HBO, Divorce joins a comedy roster that includes recently renewed Veep and Silicon Valley as well as upcoming Ballers, Vice Principals and The Brink in addition to Togetherness, the third and final season of Getting On, among others.

Divorce will film in New York this year. 

Meanwhile, HBO still has its Sarah Silverman vehicle, Issa Rae entry as well as Brothers in Atlanta vying for contention on its comedy pilot slate.
