Laverne Cox and Jordana Brewster pose naked for Allure’s 2015 “Nudes Issue.” Check out the photos below, which the stars shared on Instagram and made embeddable.
As Gossip Cop has reported, the annual feature showcases a new group of stars in the buff each year. The most recent participants included Kristen Bell and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. In addition to Cox and Brewster, “Vikings” star Katheryn Winnick, Nicole Beharie of “Sleepy Hollow,” and Terminator Genisys actress-model Sandrine Holt also stripped down for the new edition.
Cox’s involvement marks a milestone for the magazine, as she is the first transgender woman to pose for the nude spread. The “Orange Is The New Black” star, who was also named to the Time 100 “Most Influential People” list on Thursday, posted her stunning naked picture on Instagram, writing, “Thanks to everyone at @allure magazine for making me feel so comfortable taking off my clothes for the camera for your May issue.” Cox went on to include the hashtags “#TransIsBeautiful” and “#BodiesThatMatter”
In the accompanying story, it’s revealed Cox initially turned down the magazine’s request. “Going through life, you try to cover and hide, but it doesn’t really work. I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again. But I’m a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent,” she says. Cox explains, “Black women are not often told that we’re beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we’re beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about herself might be inspiring to some other folks. There’s beauty in the things we think are imperfect. That sounds very cliché, but it’s true.”
Brewster, currently clothed on screen in Furious 7, credits the franchise with keeping her in shape. She tells the magazine, “I’m having more fun posing nude or being in a bikini or doing love scenes than I ever did before because it hit me: This is fleeting, and in a couple of years I won’t be able to do this, so just enjoy it.” How did the actress’ husband react to the shoot? Brewster, who has an 18-month-old son who was born via surrogate, reveals, “I asked if he had any reservations. He said, ‘Just don’t do full frontal.’ He’ll be pleasantly surprised.” And, notes, Brewster, “There’s a strength to the portrait that I’m really proud of.”
Gossip Cop exclusively debunked reports in February that falsely claimed Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds had jointly posed naked for the nude spread. Indeed, Lively appears on the cover of the May issue… fully clothed.
