Jussie Smollett revealed that he experienced an emotional encounter with a young fan who said she almost committed suicide over her sexuality, but didn’t because of him. The “Empire” star said the interaction left him “bawling,” explaining that the fan didn’t go through with it after watching him discuss his sexuality on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

“I get really incredible people,” Smollett told E! News about his fans, adding, “This girl came to a signing and she showed me she had cuts on her arm and said, I swear to God, she said she was about to commit suicide and just happened to see me on ‘Ellen’ and it changed her life.” The 31-year-old actor said that the fan encounter touched him so much that he “literally started bawling.” Smollett noted, “I am a little sucker for emotion… But that stuff right there is crazy to think that you can have such a difference on someone’s life. It touches me in a really, really deep way.”

As Gossip Cop reported, during a March appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Smollett revealed he was gay, saying “there’s never been a closet, that I’ve been in.” He also thanked DeGeneres for all her work in the LGBT community: “”You’ve been such an inspiration to so many, but also to me. What you’ve done in the LGBT community is very much in my opinion kind of like what Michael Jackson did with the black community.”
