"Because people don't know him, you have to try to paint a picture of him, so people are using whatever they had," 'The Nightly Show' host tells 'CBS This Morning.'

Larry Wilmore hasn't met new Daily Show host Trevor Noah yet, but the Nightly Show host isn't the only one who doesn't know Noah.

Most people don't know him, Wilmore pointed out, as he explained that this is where the criticism has come from for the South African comic who was anointed Jon Stewart's successor.

"Because people don't know him, you have to try to paint a picture of him, so people are using whatever they had. But I think once he's doing the show, I think some of those things will go away," Wilmore said on CBS This Morning.

He also pointed out that Stewart has left big shoes to fill.

"Let's be clear, a young Jon Stewart would have had trouble following the present-day Jon Stewart," Wilmore said.

The Nightly Show host was asked to Keep it 100, in keeping with his show's segment in which guests have to tell the truth, about Noah. Before discussing the controversy, CBS This Morning's Gayle King asked Wilmore, "Do you think this would have happened if he was white?"

"If what would have happened? Would he have gotten a late-night job? Yes, that would have happened if he were white," Wilmore joked, adding, "Its a very difficult Keep it 100 question you're asking me here.

During his wide-ranging, funny interview with the CBS morning show hosts on Friday, Wilmore also talked about what advice Stewart gave him, following Stephen Colbert, what he'd ask his dream interview subject Pope Francis and golf, which he's a huge fan of.
