The quick-tongued Lannister may be the Seven Kingdoms' only hope, but "he has to find his mojo."
It isn't easy being Tyrion (Peter Dinklage).
The stakes couldn't be higher for the quick-tongued Lannister when Game of Thrones returns Sunday. After murdering his father Tywin (Charles Dance) and former lover Shae (Sibel Kekilli), he's escaped King's Landing with help from Varys (Conleth Hill).
But it's not smooth sailing. Cersei (Lena Headey) not only wants Tyrion's head for her father's murder, but also for the poisoning death of her son Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), which Tyrion was wrongly convicted of.

"He's in a miserable state. Physically he escaped, but not mentally and emotionally," Dinklage tells The Hollywood Reporter.
When viewers pick up with him, Tyrion has taken to heavily drinking, and doesn't feel like doing much of anything — much less help save the Seven Kingdoms, which is what Varys has in mind. Varys risked everything to save Tyrion, because he believes the disgraced Lannister can help him with a yet-to-be revealed plan. Trailers have heavily suggested Varys wants Tyrion's help in seeking out Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) to sit the Iron Thrones.
"Varys has always believed in Tyrion," says Hill. "The two of them are outside the norm. They have both been criticized and ridiculed all their lives, but they've both survived."

But despite Varys' grand plans, it won't be easy to convince Tyrion to do much of anything. Dinklage describes Varys as "a bulldog on his case," trying to get him to move on from the pain he's suffered in King's Landing.
"He has to find his mojo once more, and Varys for sure helps him down that road," says Dinklage.
