The Will Forte comedy will return for another 13 episodes during the 2015-16 season, joining previously renewed comedies 'New Girl' and 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine.'
The Last Man on Earth will return. Fox's post-apocalyptic comedy, which surprised with its strong midseason debut, has been renewed for a second season.
Starring and written by Will Forte, with executive producers and directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, The Last Man on Earth will produce an additional 13 episodes to air during the 2014-15 broadcast season. That's the same number as its freshman run.
“We knew we had something special with The Last Man on Earth," said Fox Broadcasting Company entertainment president David Madden. "It’s one of those rare shows that continues to add depth and dimension to its unique premise, week after week. We are so thrilled that this incredibly bold, original and inventive series has been embraced by both fans and critics, and we cannot wait to see where the creative genius and inspired vision of Will, Phil and Chris take us in season two.”
Starring Forte as the titular last man, the show has added characters in subsequent episodes and also counts Kristen Schaal, January Jones and Mel Rodriguez as regular cast members. Season-to-date, the series is averaging a 3.3 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.6 million viewers in Nielsen's latest live-plus-seven day stats.
Fox is quickly filling up its returning roster. Last Man joins previously renewed comedies Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl. On the drama side, Gotham, Sleepy Hollow and runaway smash Empire have also been locked to return. That leaves longtime veteran Bones, little-watched critical favorite The Mindy Project and The Following still up in the air — as well as freshmen Backstrom and Weird Loners.
Episodes of Last Man have been airing back-to-back of late, with the latest one-hour outing set for April 12. Find the latest information on broadcast renewals, cancellations and new series orders in The Hollwyood Reporter's scorecard.
