John Travolta is defending Scientology in the wake of the documentary, Going Clear, which accused the controversial Church of Scientology of cult tactics and abuse.

As Gossip Cop reported, former Scientologist Leah Remini praised the project as “brave,” and she expressed gratitude to the participants for speaking out. While Travolta hasn’t seen the film, he makes abundantly clear in a new interview that he does not share Remini’s perspective. And he doesn’t even “really care” to watch the doc to see exactly what it says.

“I haven’t experienced anything that the hearsay has [claimed], so why would I communicate something that wasn’t true for me?” Travolta tells the Tampa Bay Times of calls for him to join Scientology’s critics. “It wouldn’t make sense, nor would it for Tom, I imagine.” “Tom,” of course, is Tom Cruise, whose involvement with Scientology was one of the documentary’s major focuses.

Travolta says, “I’ve been so happy with my experience in the last 40 years that I really don’t have anything to say that would shed light on [a documentary] so decidedly negative. I’ve been brought through storms that were insurmountable, and [Scientology has] been so beautiful for me, that I can’t even imagine attacking it.” The actor cites the death of his son Jett as one of the instances the Church helped him through, saying he “wouldn’t have made it” otherwise, and says Scientology provided resources for him to help others.

“Loss of children, loved ones, physical illnesses. Through many tough, tough life situations I’ve used the technology to support them and help them. It’s always worked,” says Travolta. “So, why would I even approach a negative perspective? That would be a crime to me, personally, to do that.”

Travolta deems Going Clear the result of “people who were disgruntled with their experiences,” where as Scientology “has been nothing but brilliant for me.” What do you think of the star’s comments?
