It's the Mad Men Sexist Ad of the Week, this week from 1962 via the Cigar Institute of America.
That pithy quote was by Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the 19th-century British politician and writer who also coined the phrases "The Great Unwashed" and "It was a dark and stormy night."
At least the Institute didn't stick a fat stogie into the model's mouth. (That was a back-up comp by the ad agency.)
Every Wednesday until the end of the season, I'll post a madly sexist ad from the 1960s.
