There is little point in asking Matthew Weiner to opine on Mad Men's unresolved storylines — but, six years after referencing it, he seems fine discussing one: the fate of Duck Phillips' dog, Chauncey.
Poor, regal Chauncey. The Irish Setter was escorted out the lobby door of Sterling Cooper's offices back in season two and never seen again. So when The Hollywood Reporter recently sat down with Mad Men's justifiably secretive creator to talk about the final seven episodes, the discarded canine came up.

Weiner offers four Mad Men staff theories — three optimistic and one expectedly grim — in the above video about what happened to the dog, though he ultimately says it's up in the air. "I, luckily, have no idea," he says. "I just know that Duck did not want dog watching him drink."
The showrunner also sounded off on characters that he could have seen more of, including Alison Brie's Trudy Campbell — her role on NBC's unsinkable Community prevented her for from ever — and fan favorite, the late Ida Blankenship (Randee Heller).
AMC kicks off Mad Men's final seven episodes on Sunday, April 5, at 10 p.m.
