Leah Remini is in full support of the controversial Scientology documentary Going Clear. The actress, who famously left the religion in 2013, said she thought the film was “brave” and praised the documentary’s director Alex Gibney.
“Thank you to the brave who did something about it. And to those who didn’t have a voice, you do now. #GoingClear,” tweeted Remini on Sunday. The two-hour film aired on HBO after debuting almost three months ago at the Sundance Film Festival. Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief sheds light on some of the secretive religion’s alleged scare tactics, and follows Hollywood director and ex-member Paul Haggis as he recounts times when he was threatened and blackmailed.
As Gossip Cop previously reported, Remini made headlines when she left Scientology. During an interview last year, the actress revealed that she departed from the faith because her daughter Sofia was getting close to the age when children begin the religion’s auditing process. Remini also said that she started to reflect on her own childhood, when she was forced to live in a secluded Scientology compound in Florida.
“We were working from morning until night with barely any schooling,” Remini said at the time. “There was no saying no.
