Sarah Brightman plans on becoming the first artist to perform in space. The 54-year-old British singer revealed in a press conference held in London on Tuesday that she’s working on a new song that she wants to perform on the International Space Station later this year.
Brightman said she and ex-husband Andrew Lloyd-Webber are piecing together a new song for her to sing when she boards a tourist flight on a Russian rocket on September 1. “I would like to sing something from space,” she said. “We’re trying to work out all the technical details, obviously it’s quite a complex thing to do.”
Brightman said they’re composing a song that is “beautiful and simple in its message, as well as not too complicated to sing.” She added, “I would like to connect with a choir, or children or an orchestra on Earth because I think that will be a very beautiful thing.”
Should Brightman succeed with her space station plans, she’ll become the first professional musician to sing in space. As Gossip Cop previously reported, Lady Gaga tweeted in 2013 that she had plans to board a Virgin Galactic flight to perform in space for their Zero G Colony music festival.
