Sharon Osbourne has reacted to the news that her daughter Kelly quit “Fashion Police.” Late on Friday, “The Talk” co-host tweeted, “.@KellyOsbourne, I am so proud of you. You can never be bought. You always wear your heart on your sleeve. #ProudToBeYourMum.”
Kelly herself has not tweeted or publicly commented on the situation, but E! confirmed on Friday that she’d be stepping away from “Fashion Police.” The official statement read: “Kelly Osbourne is departing E!s ‘Fashion Police’ to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers.”
There’s been widespread speculation that Osbourne’s reason for leaving the show is tied to this past week’s controversy involving co-host Giuliana Rancic’s comment about Oscars attendee Zendaya’s dreadlocks, which Rancic said made the actress look as though she smelled like “weed.” Zendaya slammed Rancic, Rancic subsequently apologized, and Zendaya accepted, seeming to quell the tension.
Reports indicate that Osbourne did not leave because of the Rancic situation. According to TMZ, Osbourne has been unhappy about the way production’s been going ever since the show was brought back after the death of her friend and co-host Joan Rivers.
Rivers’ daughter Melissa posted her own reaction to the news on Friday, writing, “Kelly Osbourne is a friend and has been a wonderful part of the Fashion Police family. I will miss her terribly and wish her the very best in all of her future endeavors. As my mother always said, the show must go on and I plan to continue in the same spirit.” No replacement for Osbourne has been named. Gossip Cop will have updates.
