AMC is looking to take The Interview a step forward.

The network home to Mad Men and The Walking Dead is developing a thriller about a dictator of a foreign country who kidnaps an award-winning actress, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Sources tell THR that the untitled Darby Kealey thriller was originally set in North Korea but, following the fallout from the Sony Hack and The Interview, changed the location of the story to a fictional country.

The drama now will explore how the actress becomes the centerpiece of a covert power struggle after she's kidnapped by the dictator of a foreign country.

Kealey will pen the script and co-executive produce. Copper alum Thomas Kelly will serve as showrunner. The drama hails from MGM Television and Whalerock Industries. Lloyd Braun and Kelly will exec produce. Andrew Mittman is also on board as a co-EP.

For MGM TV, the drama marks the company's latest cable foray and, should it go to series, would join FX's Fargo, MTV's Teen Wolf and History's Vikings.

Kealey is repped by Gersh and Mindframe Films & Management; Kelly is with WME.
